An interview with Anderson Cooper in  “60 Minutes”, Michael Phelps says “After Beijing, there have been countless times where I just wanted to be like, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore, I don’t want to go to the pool anymore’ … I didn’t know if the passion or fire was still inside of me,”.

But he found that fire and now he says he’s “actually enjoying” swimming again and that he’s swimming well. He also says he has learned a lot from the incident where he was photographed with a bong and suspended from competitions for three months.

“That was the lowest point in my career,” says Phelps. “Being able to see how it affected the close people around me, that was the thing that hurt the most. Telling my mom that … It was stupid. I put myself in a bad position. I probably went through a depression phase.”

As for his career after the 2012 London Olympics, Micheal’s mom Deborah says she’s all for him competing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janiero, Brazil. “I’ve never been there before!” she cracks.

But Phelps says no way.

“I’m retiring. I’m done. I’ve been able to go to all these amazing cities in my travels and I haven’t been able to see them at all. I see the hotel and I see the pool, that’s it. I just want to go and do whatever I want to do. I’m excited,” says Michael
